Veto Frank Banaitis, 77, of Springfield died April 3, 1995.
He was born July 29, 1917, in Springfield, the son of Joseph and Mary Treinis Banaitis. He married Ellen Drew in 1961. Mr. Banaitis retired from the Internal Revenue Service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and earned several medals. He was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, the Lithuanian-American Club and the Elks Lodge of Springfield.
Survivors: wife, Ellen; a son, Joseph Banaitis of Edwardsville; three daughters, Ann Countryman and Kathy Dierkes, both of Springfield, and Carol Banaitis of Durham, N.C.; two grandchildren; a brother, Clem Banaitis of Springfield; three sisters, Helen Banaitis, Ida Kleinschmidt and Agnes Coady, all of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

SPRINGFIELD – Clemens J. “Clem” Banaitis, 101, of Springfield died at 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Heritage Manor in Springfield.
Clem was born September 13, 1908, in Springfield, the son of Joseph and Mary Treinis Banaitis. He married Mildred E. Bomke on May 6, 1972, at St. Cabrini Catholic Church; she preceded him in death on March 12, 2009.
Clem was a Springfield High School graduate and a U.S. Navy veteran who served his country during WW II. He was a self-employed carpenter and builder throughout his entire lifetime. He also worked for over 30 years at the International Shoe Factory and in later life was engaged in farming.
He was a hardworking and kind gentleman who loved the outdoors and country life.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Veto Banaitis; and three sisters, Helen Banaitis, Ida Kleinschmidt and Agnes Coady.
He is survived by his brother-in-law, Clarence (wife, Marie) Bomke of Springfield; sister-in-law, Ellen Banaitis of Chatham; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2009, at St. Cabrini Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola celebrant. Burial will be in Farmington Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County. Memorials may be made to St. Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 N.
